LIFELINES

R.I.P. the world's oldest has passed..

In 1997 the world's oldest person died in a hundred and twenty two years and 164 days. She had actually met Vincent Van Gogh about a hundred years earlier. In many societies around the world the aged are revered as wise. Here in the US we may value our elderly relatives but there's a disconnect to those we don't know very well.
Those who reach their late forties and on until their mid-sixties are in a place where it's scary. They're too young for Medicare and Social Security but too old to be considered seriously for many jobs. Try to prove that.
Part of the ageism is because older people 45 to 64 years old miss more work due to illness.  Younger women miss work due to illness more often than their male counterparts. Is there a connection to those stats & who gets hired? Some people would agree.
But back to the oldest person in the world... Emma Morano just died at hundred and Seventeen years old. The oldest living person.  Recently I told my doctor wanted to live to 122. I kind of wonder what he meant when he said; "Good luck with that!"
